I saw another guess artist speaker this week and she was Jenny Schmid. She mention her influences and inspirations which are history, century and midevil art and gender roles. She is very ironic and humorous in her work. She mainly works in print making but also does installation work. I liked her approach on gender roles, and serious issues with dark humor . Issues like anorexia, and self-image. She let us see that series " The down fall of the young girls" That was my favor series.

Mark Allen

I saw last weeks speaker her in school. he is Mark Allen His concepts are mainly to allow people to interact with the work and to learn, or do, or listen to what they ask for, or want. He is concerned with questions like “How can sculpture and performance affect the viewer in a deep, personal way?
He is a very entertaining speaker, and enthusiastic about what he has created, and his believes. I feel he is genuinely interested in the people and their concerns of their relationship with art. I like the concept of his institution, I think is compassionate and it targets specially young artist as myself with new ideas and anxiety of learning about the world.

This work made me think of ideas for my next project ...

last night I was eating chinese from china express. It make think of Zhang Huan a chinese performance artist that I recently learned about. He is a performer that is usually naked during his performances because thats the most pure way of comunicating with the world. he has a very "quite" way of performing incorporating the Buddhist ideology.

"Ex-boyfriends"

This is a series about portraying the essence of the individuals. These men happen to my ex-boyfriends.

Last saturday I went to "sound walk" in downtown long beach. This is an annual series of installation shows both indoor and outdoor by local and international artists.  This is the 6th annual sound walk. My favorite one was performance artist Michael Mufson and composer Ellen Weller that explored with acoustic to electronic sound interfaces. It was a very moving performance that relied on the most part in improvisation. I watch her for about 10 min. and during this time the performer was crying hysterically, trying to open up the floor and pounding on the carpet/floor. It was moving, I was able to feel her pain through her performance and the sound of the acoustic/electronic music was passionate and dark. I wish I had a photo/video of her but my phone died. I did posted some of the work by other artists there.

Today was my first day shooting for the "uncanny" project. It was a little frustrating because I went to IKEA to photograph room displays and people would come out in almost all of the shots. All I can say is "Thank God for Digital" I would of waisted lots of film today. But I spoke to the manager and he told me I could and do my shot after hour... so I arrange with him to go back on sunday wish me luck!

Project Description Form

Project Name:

Uncanny

Project Description:

Photograph room displays in department stores and also real rooms in homes that have similar aesthetics. Produce them as diptychs. No human presence.

 Conceptual Concerns:

This project pretends to point-out the way society is predisposed. The “set-up” spaces cripple the ability of human creative input. Having in mind that the display rooms would never be a habitat for humans, and having the real rooms simulate the “fake rooms” create a bazaar atmosphere, by dehumanizing the space.

 Technical Skills Covered

Digital can give a perspective of fakeness, coldness during the post-production of the project. This would benefit the goal of the project.

 Formal Guidelines:

Digital prints, the size is 16 x 16 mounted in white. Four diptychs. The due date would be October 13.

The goal of the project is to make the viewer conscience of the absurdity that the similarity of the fake and the real brings.

-The concept is the observation of pre-fabricated displays, their influence in American homes, and the ridiculousness of their similarity.
