Mark Bradford
I saw a brief documentary about this artist, he works with collages and installations that deal with economies, migrant communities, or popular appropriation of abandoned public spaces that emerge within a city. A quote I i took from the interview that simply explains the kind of artist he is was " My practice is décollage and collage at the same time. Décollage, I take it away; collage, I immediately add it right back." I enjoyed his explanation of the projects and the way he works. he said his he likes to overwhelm himself with work, to have details that will make him slow down to hear the quite voice in his head, that can be overpowered by the loudness of everything around him. He told a story of his childhood when he would go with his and buy a barbie, ken and take them to school to show his classmates and professor during a "show and tell".. it wasn't correct for a boy to put together these objects it made him realize it was about independence, about doing your own thing. And that’s a state of mind. It’s not an artwork or a book. stay tune I will keep writing about this artist...
